Interior Decorating Color for

Uses of color in the decoration: the different color schemes, the sensations of the warm and cold shades, and the always necessary neutral colors.

The color is fundamental in design and decoration. It is the one that gives the first impression of a space when we enter it, and also modifies its characteristics and appreciation. It also manages to influence our moods and the comfort that we can get to feel in a particular environment. All this makes the choice of interior decorating colors our house to be something important.

Color Schemes

The chromatic circle and the color theory have a lot to do with this. The different relationships that are established between the colors are used very commonly in all the branches of the design, and the interior design is not the exception. Also here colors are used efficiently and according to the theory to be successful in their use in different environments, and whatever space is being designed or decorated.

Within the theory of color we can talk about “schematics”, which can be distinguished in 3 fundamental types: monochromatic scheme, harmonic scheme and contrast scheme. The first one is simply to use different colors of the same tonality, for example blue softer and darker. The second refers to the use of two contiguous colors in the chromatic circle, such as blue and green. The third one is more complex and deals with the combination of two opposite colors in the circle, for example the blue and the orange.

There are other ways to combine the colors according to this theory, such as the Triads, the tetras, the divided complementary, the complementary doubles, the approximate complementary ones, the mutual complementary, or the adjacent ones. Most hardly used in decoration, at least at our beginners level.

Warm and cold colors

On the other hand we can also differentiate between warm colors and cold colors. The first ones transmit a feeling of warmth and modify the space in a way different from the cold. Among the warm colors we find the red, orange, yellow, fuchsia, and diversity of shades.

In the opposite way the cold shades are the ones on the other side of the wheel (blue and green violets). They are suitable colors for homes located in warm areas, where you want to have a feeling of freshness and relaxation.

Neutral colors

Out of the “pure” colors, neutral or neutral colors are found, and may be the most widely used on all surfaces and materials in interior decorating.

They include: white, black, all the range of grays shades. We can also include natural colors among them. The latter with beige to the head, also earthy tones, browns and creams. They are tones that are very well with pure colors and intense shades.

The white is undoubtedly the most used, or at least the most suitable to combine with other colors, as it stands out to the softest hue in bright or dimly lit environments, and is also the perfect contrast for pure and dark tones.

Although it seems complex, knowing how to use the colors to decorate is quite simple. Just play a little with the colors without overloading, and without using bold combinations if you do not have the proper experience. Inspire yourself, look for photos and see how colors are combined to get a more specific idea, and then use it in a convenient way.
